Shirley Ann O'Toole, age 92, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. A Celebration of Life has been scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022 at the Dove Cremations Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Terry Frizzell, former Chaplain at Topeka Presbyterian Manor will officiate.
Shirley was the only child of Emmett Albert "Bud" Fulkerson and Elizabeth Anne Bowart, born February 25, 1930 in Kansas City, MO. She attended schools in Kansas City, MO moving to Seneca, KS and Sabetha, KS for a short time, then attending Central Junior High School and Central High School again in Kansas City, MO. Her senior year the family moved to Emporia, KS where she graduated from Emporia High School in 1947. Her family returned to Kansas City, but after their home was flooded in July 1951 they moved to Topeka where she worked as a secretary with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
She was married first to Earl Loomis Morrison Sept. 18, 1954 in Topeka and had two daughters. She married Donald Joseph O'Toole on Nov. 30, 1962 in Topeka. They were married 52 years before his death on Dec. 30, 2014. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Topeka Genealogical Society and the Kansas Council of Genealogical Society. Shirley was a homemaker most of her life and a volunteer with the Topeka Genealogical Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, stepson Michael O'Toole, son-in-law Tony Ortega and step-grandson Anthony Ortega. She is survived by her daughters, Debra (Bob) Shelinbarger, Leawood, KS; Lori Kelly, Branson, MO; a stepdaughter Kathleen (Steve) Zimmerman, and step daughter-in-law Pam (Tom) O'Toole-Trusdale, all of Topeka. Other survivors include nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; nieces, cousins and friends.
