Thomas James "Sonny" Brooks, 72, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011 at a Topeka hospital. He was born November 8, 1938 in Stonewall, MS, the son of James and Estella Eastman Brooks.
Sonny married Janell Burks in 1957. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Larry Brooks, Lisa R. Brooks, Dajesha Brooks, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Sonny was preceded in death by one son, James Brooks.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Sonny will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
