Virginia A. Smith, 83, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026. She was born August 9, 1942 in San Fernando, California, the daughter of Leo B. and Mary V. (Wise) Lawrence.
Virginia graduated from Gardner High School in 1960. She was employed by the State of Kansas as a Systems Analyst for 37 years before retiring. She had resided in Topeka since 1972 and was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Virginia married Jack D. Smith on April 8, 1972 in Gardner, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Leo F. Lawrence, Stephen A. Lawrence and Kathleen E. Tarvin.
Survivors include children, Evonne Kitchen of Ft. Worth, Texas, Alan Parker of Topeka, six grandchildren, Andrew Kitchen, Evan Kitchen, Ethan Kitchen, Devon Lake, Tomasa Lake, and Annamarie Parker, three great-grandchildren, Hazel Crawford, Olivia Crawford, Logan Crawford, and her siblings, David Lawrence and Dennis Lawrence.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2026 at St. Matthew Catholic Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Graveside committal services will be held at 3:00 p.m. at St. Columbia Cemetery in Gardner, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2700 S.E. Virginia Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66605.
Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
