William Wallace Bunten Jr.

William (Bill) Wallace Bunten, Jr., born February 22, 1963, in Topeka, Kansas, to William Wallace Bunten, Sr. and JoAnn Frances Heyka Bunten, passed away on March 28, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Wallace Bunten, Sr. He is survived by his three beloved daughters, Hillary, Elaine, and Suzanne; his sister, Sandra (Bruce Schoenhofer); his mother, JoAnn; and many cherished cousins and life-long friends.

Bill held deep affection for his years at Topeka High School and at the University of Kansas. At the University of Kansas, he was a proud member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and competed on the Track and Field team, participating in the 400-meter, 800-meter, and 1600-meter relay events. He graduated in 1986 with a degree in Business Administration. Following graduation, he worked in Washington, D.C., for the Republican National Convention, an experience he remembered with particular fondness.

Over the course of his career, Bill worked as a web programmer for Security Benefit and Washburn University, and later as a software developer for Kansas.gov. His professional life reflected both his technical skill and his dedication to serving his community.

A devoted supporter of Topeka High School and the University of Kansas, Bill spoke often and warmly of his time playing basketball for the Trojans under Coach Willie Nicklin and competing in the Kansas Relays for the Jayhawks.

The family will hold a private memorial service in Kansas at a later date.
