William R. "Bill" Fischer, 91, of Overbrook, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at the Brookside Retirement Community Care Facility. He was born February 1, 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Herbert O. and Irma E. (Huyck) Fischer.
Bill served in the US Army. He was a talented man, working many trades throughout his lifetime. He loved working with his hands and took pride in his work. His skills as welder took him across the country where he worked on projects in Texas, California and New York.
Bill was preceded in death by his forever fiancé, Vicki Phillips on November 23, 2023 whose companionship meant the world to him.
Bill is survived by Carra (Tim) Merrill of Gardner, Kansas, Lauren (Bryan) Averill, and their children, Brendyn and Brantley, and Bryan Merrill, all of whom he considered his chosen family.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Brookside Health and Rehab and Wellsville Health and Rehab for their never-ending love, support and care for Bill and his entire family.
Bill will be remembered for his hard-working spirit, his talents, and the lives he touched along the way.
A private Celebration of Bill's Life will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. is assisting the family with service arrangements.
