William N. Allen (Coach Bill Allen)

William N. “Bill” Allen, 81, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at a local hospital.

Bill was born in Claycomo, MO, on February 4, 1939 to Richard and Mary Francis Allen. He is survived by a sister, Joan Tompkins, Olathe, KS.

He graduated from NKC High School in 1957 and KU in 1961 where he was a scholarship football player. He moved to Topeka in 1961. He received his Masters in School Administration from Emporia State University in 1966.

Bill married his wife Jan in 1966 and they celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2016. He is survived by Jan and children, Mark Allen and Melissa Allen Waters. Mark (Michelle) and their children, Zachary and Caroline, live in Katy, TX. Melissa resides in Denver, CO.

Bill was a teacher and coach (football, track and gymnastics) and Assistant Principal for USD-501 for 19 years. He was a Principal for USD-437 for 2 years. He left the education field for a 22 year career in management with SWB and AT&T, retiring in 2006.

No service is planned at this time due to the limitations of Covid.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, in Topeka, the Topeka Rescue Mission or Helping Hands Humane Society.
