In Memory Of
Barbara A. Rummel
1940 - 2021

Barbara A. Rummel, 80, of Topeka, KS, died Tuesday, March 2, 2021 in her home, surrounded by family.

Barbara was born on March 4, 1940 in Topeka, KS to John and Bess (Mayden) Leech. She grew up in Atwood and Topeka, Kansas, graduating from Topeka High. Later in life she attended and graduated from Barton Community College with an Associates in Dietary Management.

Barbara married her childhood sweetheart, William D. Rummel “Bill”, on Dec. 13, 1959 at the First Christian Church in Atwood, KS. When Bill joined the Navy in 1960, Barb became a very proud and patriotic military wife! She held many positions as Wives’ Club President and supported and encouraged many, many Navy wives over the years. She enjoyed moving around the country and seeing a beautiful America, making lifelong friends everywhere they lived.

Her girls were her world. She became involved in activities like teaching Sunday school, directing childrens’ choirs and many years in Girl Scout, so that she could share and support the girls as they grew up.

When Bill retired from the Navy, they finally came back home to Kansas, living in Holton, Colby, Mayetta and finally Topeka. She enjoyed working at Holton Community Hospital, Shawnee North Community Center and Homestead Assisted Living. In retirement, she loved going back to Homestead to do crafts with the residents there.

Barbara loved camping and in later years staying in hotels, but always going for drives to see the country. Closer to home, going to Lake Shawnee to watch the geese was a favorite pastime.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, John and Bess, granddaughters Allison and Charlene Litscher, a son-in-law, Albert Smith and many others who were very important to her. Survivors include: husband Bill Rummel; children Beckey Smith (Doug Guy) and their children Shelley, Michelle, Michael; Betsey Litscher (Kevin) and their children Beckey and Joshua; Peggy Spiker; Penny Turley (Marvin) and their children Serra and Dani; Patti Quattromani (Max) and their children Jordan, Devan, Alex, Madeline and Sophie; Karen and Doug Miller and their children Crystal, Jessica and Andrew; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brother John Leech (Sherry), sister Nancy Pence (Clif) and many nieces and nephews!

Private memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 7th. We appreciate your love and prayers at this time.

Memorials can be sent to the American Heart Association, 5375 SW. 7th St, Topeka, KS, 66606
